Oil painting on canvas painting depicting the Adoration of the Magi, Giuseppe Sciuti (Zafferana, February 26, 1834 - Rome, 13 March 1911). 60x46 cm, framed cm 70,5x56,5
A painting that is foreign to those of the greek-Roman classicism. Sciuti assumes in this, more domestic tone, less emphatic.
The Madonna with the face of a young Sicilian mother, intently watching your sleeping child, conveys a clear moment of intimacy. I admired the wise men are participants in a moment of loving-kindness.

The draft, a sketch, not subjected to the ornamental design control, is fast and almost instinctive. The lumpy mixture of pigments takes us back to a paint stain, foreign to theatrical practice of large paintings that Sciuti loved to conceive.
The density of the dense brushstroke enhances the luminous effect which combines expertise with chromatic dark spots to lighter ones, with the wise use of white.
All this brings us back to a setting almost familiar, but of great pictorial quality, which refers to the experiences of Florence and Naples.
