Work of the secretary of the Princes of Savoy, created in the name of the Marquis d'Este. Turin, Per Gio. Domenico Tarino. Coeval soft parchment, chiseled title on the tail flap, general dedicatory epistle from the author to Vittorio Amedeo, prince of Piedmont dated from Briga [Alta], 15 December 1607. Paolo Filippi from Briga, poet and secretary at the court of the Dukes of Savoy in Turin, deals with the art of writing letters and choosing "compliments". He insists that the formulas used in letters must adapt to the circumstances. This repertoire was very successful; the work, published for the first time in 1601, saw several editions, including one posthumous (1619).
