Carmelo Comes

Carmelo Comes, a student of Nitto Condorelli (Catania, 1878 - Catania, 1950) and in Naples of Michele Cammarano (Naples, 1835 - Naples, 1920), moved from social painting to landscape painting and portraiture. A painter of value, he participated in the VII and IX Quadrennial of Rome and in the Venice Biennale of '50 and '56. Having never moved from the Etna area relegated him to a local provincialism, although the painter with his works was present in all the homes of Catania. He should be reevaluated with a broader consideration. ASORstudio
