Work of the secretary of the Princes of Savoy, made in the name of the Marquis of Este. Turin, Per Gio. Domenico Tarino. Contemporary soft parchment, title chiseled on the tail flap, General dedicatory epistle of the author to Vittorio Amedeo, Prince of Piedmont dated from Briga [Alta], 15 December 1607. Paolo Filippi dalla Briga, poet and secretary at the court of the Dukes of Savoy in Turin, deals with the art of writing letters and choosing "compliments". He insists that the formulas used in letters must adapt to the circumstances. This repertoire was a great success; the work, published for the first time in 1601, went through several editions, one of which was posthumous (1619).
